The Chandler Police Department responded to the following: Friday, August 1
Around 10:20 p.m., Ofc. Schaefer responded to a possible hit-and-run. He met the driver of the vehicle that was hit in the parking lot of the Lincoln County feed store, after the driver had attempted to follow the other truck on South Hwy 18. The driver said the incident occurred on Manvel and First Street when a truck hit his mirror and kept going. Schaefer took photographs of a scratch on the mirror, noting that the glass was gone. On Aug. 28, Schaefer was able to speak with the driver of the truck, who told him that his mirror had hit another truck’s mirror, but he didn’t see any damage, nor did he see the other driver stop or slow down, so he thought all was fine. Schaefer thanked him for coming in to talk and sent him home.
Thursday, August 21
Ofc. Schaefer was on patrol on 15th Street at around 9:50 p.m. when he found a car sitting in the middle of the road. As he approached, the car started moving. Schaefer noted a pedestrian on the other side of the road, surmising that it could be why the car stopped. He initiated a traffic stop to make sure everything was okay and discovered from the Comm Center that the insurance had expired. The driver couldn’t provide updated insurance, so the car was impounded while the driver was issued a citation for no insurance.
Saturday, September 6
At around 7:52 p.m., Ofc. Schaefer responded to a suspicious person around East 9th Street. A man in a white shirt and black hat, driving a white Subaru, was walking up to random houses and saying that he owned them. Schaefer found the vehicle and the man in the area, with the car parked and the driver’s side door open. He introduced himself, receiving a paper copy of an ID-only card. Comm Center advised that the man had a suspended license and a warrant out of Kay County for eluding officers; however, the county didn’t wish to pick him up. The man told Schaefer he was in the area to wait for his family, who had recently bought property. Schaefer advised the man that he could not drive on a suspended license and left. Later, at around 9:30 p.m., Schaefer saw the same vehicle driving around 10th Street, so he initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle stopped in front of BancFirst, but then took off. Schaefer followed the car, and it was eventually boxed in by him and Ofc. Byford at Allison and 11th Street. The man was ordered to get out of the car and on the ground. After he was cuffed, the officers asked why he started driving when he was told not to, and the man said he prayed to God and God told him to drive to his father-in-law’s house. The car was impounded, while the man was taken to the Lincoln County Jail. A dog in the car was transported to Countryside Vet. While being booked at the jail, the man asked what happened to his cat, which was also in the car, though he couldn’t be sure. Schaefer called the tow company, which confirmed there was no cat in the vehicle.
