Joseph “Joe” Frederick Flake, 65, of Wellston, Oklahoma, passed away on September 7, 2026.
Joe was born on April 22, 1961, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Bill and Marilyn Flake. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Joe shared 27 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sue Flake. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, laughter, and cherished memories.
Joe loved the Lord, and his faith was an important part of his life. He found joy in the simple things and had an appreciation for a wide varietyofmusic.Musicwas something he enjoyed listening to and sharing in his everyday life. Joe worked as a truck driver and was a hardworking and dependable man who took pride in providing for his family. Above all, family was an important part of Joe’s life. Joe had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tell a good joke. He had a way of keeping everyone around him laughing and could always bring a smile to the faces of those he loved. Joe was also a great storyteller, and his stories, humor, and unique way of bringing them to life will be treasured by his family and friends for years to come.
In his free time, Joe enjoyed wood burning, drawing, riding his motorcycle, and fishing. These hobbies were a special part of who Joe was and the memories his family will carry with them.
Joe was a loving father to his five children: Candice Bolner; Joe Flake; Lindsay Evans and her husband, Brad; Laura Metheny and her husband, Geoff; and Chelsea Wilson and her husband, Clayton. He was also a proud grandfather to his nine grandchildren, who lovingly knew him as “Papa Joe.” His grandchildren were Isla and Ruby Evans; Makinlee and Maddox Metheny; Mason Bolner; Marshall Simpson; and Haylie, James, and Cooper Wilson. Joe cherished his grandchildren dearly, and the memories they made together will remain a treasured part of their lives.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Sue; five children and their families; nine grandchildren; sister, Kelly, and her husband, David; brother, Bobby, and wife, Shelly; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joe will be deeply missed by his family and friends and by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His laughter, stories, sense of humor, love of music, faith, and loving spirit will remain in the hearts of everyone who knew him. To his grandchildren, he will always be Papa Joe—a beloved grandfather whose place in their hearts can never be replaced.
May Joe rest in peace in the loving arms of the Lord, and may his family find comfort in the love, laughter, stories, music, faith, and memories they shared with him.
Afuneral was held Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Missionary Baptist Church of Wellston with interment following in the Wellston Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
