Meeker racked up 32 points in the first quarter against Star-Spencer and went to clip the Bobcats, 52-6.

It was the Bulldogs’ highest point total and most lop-sided win of the year.

It was the first district win of the season for Meeker, which has lost one game to COVID-19 and had shorthanded practices because of quarantines.

Once the lead reached the point of no return, the Bulldogs used some of their possessions to get ready for this week’s game against Chandler, coach D.J. Howell said.

“We worked on stuff on the passing game just to see what we could do,” he said.

“We got control of it, got three and outs and got on them early.

“We jumped out on them pretty quick and threw the ball quite a bit, not because we needed to, but because we could have lined up and run past them.”

Meeker started the scoring with a 30-yard run by Caden Wolford with a little more than three minutes gone in the game, then got a touchdown run by sophomore Ty Gabbert and a scoopand-score fumble recovery by Zach Cook for touchdown.

Keavin Grady ran 20 yards for a touchdown, making it 26-0 with 5:31 left in the first quarter.

Cook ran 16 yards for another score to close the quarter at 32-0.

Wolford finished the game with 17 carries for 139 yards and Gabbert ran it six times for 30 yards.

Meeker and Prague have one district win each and are tied for fifth place, which would leave both of them out of the playoffs.

Meeker faces Chandler Friday night, then has games with Crossings Christian and Jones.

For the Bulldogs, the Chandler game is significant in the standings because the Lions occupy the rung just above them in the standings..

Should they finish in a tie, head-to-head matches are a tie-breaker.

“If we show up and play, we’ll have a shot,” Howell said.
