Deferred term in strangulation

A Chandler man facing a felony charge of domestic abuse by strangulation has pleaded no contest to an amended charge and drawn a deferred term.

Formal felony charges were filed in Lincoln County District Court against Bradley Mark Mugele, 39 at the time, on Sep. 27, 2022.

On June 23, 2023 before Special Judge Emily Mueller, he waived his preliminary hearing.

During a final jury call docket last week before District Judge John Canavan, Mugele withdrew his previous plea of not guilty and pleaded no contest to the amended misdemeanor charge of domestic assault and battery.

The court found Mugele guilty as charged and the judge handed him a one year deferred sentence, a $100 judicial assessment, $100 VCA and court costs.

He also ordered Mugele to perform 24 hours of Community Service and to complete a 52-week batterer’s course, pay 991 fees and placed him under supervised probation with the Department of Corrections.

Mugele is to reappear for review at 9 a.m. on Nov. 19, 2024 and to report to the Probation Office and Court Clerk’s Office.

Assistant District Attorney Kelly Trimble prosecuted the case with Mugele being defended by Barnett Barnett.

Mugele was arrested following a reported incident at a Chandler residence.

Mugele was accused on Sep. 7, 2022 of strangling or attempting to strangle Stevie Mugele, his wife.

Chandler Police Lt. Dax Phipps, in a probable cause affidavit, reports he was notified about a domestic assault and battery incident on Sep. 7. He met with the alleged victim, Stevie Mugele, at the police department and he stated that she was upset and crying.

Court records show Judge Mueller issued an Emergency Protective Order against Mugele.
