A funeral will be held for Walter Lee Nichols at 2 p.m., today, March 25, 2021, in the chapel of Lehman Funeral Home, which handled the final arrangements. The Rev. Dennis Osborne will officiate and burial will follow at Wellston Cemetery.
Nichols was born February 1, 1934, in Chappell, Neb., and died Sunday, March 21, 2021, in Edmond, Okla. He was 87 years old.
The son of Archie and Mary Francis (McBurney) Nichols, he married Mary Evelyn Bozarth in 1952. He later married Barbara Janice Hosea.
He served in the United State Air Force, worked in retail sales and retired from the medical branch of the University of Texas. He served over 30 years as a part-time deputy sheriff for Galveston County Texas.
Preceding him in death were his parents; both wives; his sisters, Helen Crane, Florence Richardson and Betty Meyer; and his brother Paul Nichols.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Roy and Karen Nichols of New York, Cheryl and Mike Soares of Houston, Christi and Danny Vanderlip of Wellston, Leslee Nichols of the home and Kellis Nichols of Wellston; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; his brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Helen Nichols of Bartlesville, Okla., and other family and friends.
