Oh, my goodness! Don’t you just love the pictures Town Talk put up on the Horn building?
It’s going to be nice to share a little bit of our community’s history with visitors and even our newer residents.
A town can’t be around as long as Stroud has without having some rich history. Did you know Brutus and John Terry were cousins to Iwana Smith?
Did you remember that Iwana Smith was the mother of Miss Oklahoma 1962 Billi Kaye Smith? Harriet Terry, Brutus’s daughter, shared a picture of the Horn building with Billi Kaye.
She replied to Harriet saying, “There has been nothing in my life that has come about without Stroud being the starting point.
I have lived in several locations during the years, but Stroud has always been “home” to me.” I look forward to Stroud maybe getting a visit sometime in the future from one of its most famous alums.
There are some events we’d like to plan on Town Talk’s list if we ever see a downturn in this awful pandemic. Keep your eye on downtown as we continue to make our Main Street the best small town on Route 66. When it’s time for the big centennial birthday party, Stroud will be ready!
I tend to focus my comments on Main Street but there is a lot going on with Highway 99, too. Drive by 5 Star BBQ & Steakhouse during the lunch and dinner hours and you’ll be hard pressed to find a parking spot.
From the Ranch House Restaurant on one end to Simple Simon’s on the other, you’ll find lots of great places to eat; grab breakfast, have a burger or enjoy a nutritious tea to get your day started. Stroud is a great location with two major highways running right through our town.
The downtown businesses are all decorated for Christmas. If you haven’t been out at night to see, take a drive down Main and enjoy all the pretty lights and decorations from our merchants and City.
Monday night I sat downtown in front of Sugar Time and listened to Elvis sing “Blue Christmas” while the lights on the building flashed blue.
I saw Taylor Lewis Brown post on Facebook one of those funny memes that said, “If you think I’m gonna ride around town and waste my gas looking at Christmas lights, you’re darn right!” No need to leave town – we’ve got all you need right here.
Thanks to everyone who came out to the movie last Friday night. We didn’t have a huge crowd but those that came and brought their kids enjoyed the evening.
They thanked Town Talk for sponsoring it and said it was a different experience for the kids and the price was right – free! We did sell refreshments, everything from grilled hot dogs to ice cream cones.
You know, it’s never too cold for ice cream! Join us this Saturday night for another night of Christmas movies. There will be one at 6 p.m. and a second movie at 8:00 p.m.
We will be showing Christmas movies the next two weeks and then will probably take a break until spring.
Hard to believe Christmas is less than three weeks away. Be sure you check out our local merchants before you decide to leave town to shop. Remember that gift certificates make great gifts, too.
Think outside the box this Christmas. Have a great week and remember to shop and dine local……….first.
I hear Santa does!
