The Andrew Sisters are coming to Stroud and Town Talk has received its first donation for two general admission tickets from Maxine Jordan.
You won’t find a more patriotic Stroudite than Maxine. Maxine’s late husband, Larry Jordan, served as our American Legion Commander and her daughter, Pam Jordan Hunt, was the previous president of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Maxine has been a member of the ALA for as long as I can remember, and she is always one of the first in line to support our veterans. Don’t miss out on this exciting event. It will take place on Saturday, November 12th, at the American Legion building from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
All veterans and active service members will be admitted free of charge and the general public will be admitted for a $20 donation. Transportation will be available for those needing it by calling 918-527-9833. All proceeds from this event will go towards the Bugle Boy statue.
Thank you to our sponsors, RCB Bank and BancFirst, for their support.
Stroud alum, Curtis Green, son of the late Velma Teters Green, was out walking the other day and knocked on my mom’s door. Curtis said he just stopped to tell her how much he appreciated her as one of his former teachers.
Curtis owns his mother’s home on 4th Avenue and spends a couple of days a month here in his hometown. His main residence is in California. Curtis said he had also stopped to visit with his second-grade teacher, Mrs. Jean Bailey.
Being a former teacher myself, I know how special it is when teachers hear from their students.
The American Legion Auxiliary held its monthly meeting last week. Those members attending were Linda Waller, Maxine Jordan, Jo Braden, Julie Bivin, Delores Hamlin, Aleta Smalley, Keturah Brown. Our State president, Gayle Wintz Keene, visited the meeting and updated members on what was going on with our State organization.
Gayle is a Stroud alum and former Stroud resident. She was a dental hygienist for Dr. Jack Melson here in Stroud for years but currently resides in Chandler. It is an honor to have someone from our county serving as State American Legion Auxiliary president.
Gayle is hosting a president’s poker run on Saturday, November 5th beginning in Chandler as her first fund raiser for the State organization. Registration will be from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the American Legion Hall at 808 Legion Avenue in Chandler.
Entrants will travel to from Chandler to Stroud, Drumright, Yale, Stillwater and then return to Chandler. Both motorcycles and cars are welcome. The cost is $20 for the first person in a vehicle and $10 for each additional person. For additional information call 405240-2503.
The Stroud High School football team traveled to Hartshorne last Friday night and took home the win with a score of 42-21.
Congratulations to the Tigers on the win and to their great conduct representing our school and community. I saw on Facebook that after the game the team went out to eat and people were bragging about how great their great behavior was in the restaurant.
Just makes me even prouder to be from Stroud – a great community with great kiddos! Fall Break is this week so the Tigers will travel Thursday night to take on the Konawa Tigers at 7:00 p.m. for another district game.
Upcoming Stroud activities are City Council meeting Thursday, October 13th at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. You may view the agenda at City of Stroud’s website. Fall City Wide Clean-Up is October 17th through the 21st.

Mums, pumpkins, Halloween candy and decorations, holiday t-shirts – Stroud has it all. I’ve seen it for myself. Stop by one of our local merchants and stock up on your spooky supplies.
It’s just downright scary what all our community has to offer. Have a great week and thank you for remembering to shop and dine local……..first!
