NRC falls to Crescent

Crescent took advantage of North Rock-Creek turnovers to hand the Cougars a 30-12 loss Friday night.

If was the Cougars’ first setback and leaves them at 1-1 heading into this Friday’s Homecoming game against Konawa.

“The biggest thing in the game was the three first-half turnovers,” said NRC coach Jason Murray. “We couldn’t get our defense off the field.

“We were moving the ball, but we would cough it up and didn’t give ourselves a chance.

“The offensive line was doing a good job creating a new line of scrimmage. We just shot our selves in the foot.”

Murray said the Cougars run ball security drills, but will make it a larger emphasis and “address it every day.”

The Cougars are playing with seniors on the team for the first time and have a year of varsity experience behind them, which Murray says has been important.

“It’s making a big difference,” he said. “Last year, everyone was just wide-eyed.

“We’re using the experience, which we didn’t have last year.”

The Cougars will try to make the school’s first high school homecoming a happy evening against Konawa, which comes into the game at 0-2.

The Tigers were schooled, 68-6, in the opener by Emore City-Pernell and dropped an 18-14 decision last week to Crooked Oak.

“We just want to focus on what we do,” Murray said. “And get better.”
