Lincoln County commissioners this week approved submitting the Fiscal Year 2024 Estimate of Needs to the County Excise Board and tabled naming a construction manager for the jail renovation and expansion project.

Tax-funding religious schools a bad idea

The Oklahoma Statewide Virtual Charter School Board voted last week to approve an application for a Catholic Charter virtual school that would create the first publicly funded religious charter school in the nation.

Steve Brant’s Route 66 Spirit of America Museum is officially open for business on Main Street, Stroud. The Stroud Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new business this past Saturday.

On Sunday, we will celebrate Father’s Day. This will be Brayden’s second Father’s Day as a dad and we can’t wait to celebrate him. When I was young I always told myself that when I had kids, they would have a better dad than I did.

Remembering on Father’s Day

This is a day set aside to honor the fathers, grandfathers, great grandfathers and great-great grandfathers. Sunday is Father’s Day. It’s an honor and privilege to be the father of a beautiful young woman as our daughter Meghan is.

Time for going fishing

With schools out and it warming up, this is a good time to go fishing. Thinking about fishing, brings back a lot of good memories. When I retired from the daily paper more than 8½ years ago, I envisioned doing a lot of hunting and fishing.

Congratulations to our Stroud Alumni committee on another successful alumni weekend. They deserve a big thank you for all the time and hard work they devote to making this event happen each year. I was unable to attend due to my great-nephew Gideon’s out of town baseball tournament.

Snake eater

Saturday afternoon one of Kindra’s chickens was trying to catch something in the corner of the coop. The chicken would peck five or six times in a row, as if its target was quicker than your typical cricket or worm.

The beginning of a new life

On Memorial Day afternoon, my wife Pat and I once again became a great aunt and uncle. Our niece Sarah gave birth to a baby boy. Wyatt James was born at 2:39 p.m. on Memorial Day. Sarah is the daughter of Pat’s younger sister, Marilyn.
