Basketball back in action

Area hoops teams get back in action this week after the holiday break. On Friday night, Meeker goes to Wellston, Davenport hosts Depew and Agra goes to Pawhuska Saturday, Chandler takes on McLoud at the Chespeake Arena in Oklahoma City and Stroud hosts Cashion.

Jones sweeps at Chandler

Jones swept a pair at Chandler Thursday night, beating the Lady Lions 51-20 and the Lions, 69-52. The Lions were within two, 25-23, at the half, thanks in large measure to eight points each from Caedon Parris and Dylan Mahan. Jones began pulling away midway through the third quarter, though.

Lady Tigers win a thriller

Stroud’s girls were in a difficult situation against McLoud Friday night. They had the ball, but trailed by four points when JadynYoung was fouled with less than five seconds left in the game. Unless they could manufacture a four-point play, they would lose for the second time this season.

Lady Lions take third

The Lady Lions downed Bethel and Byng to bring home third-place hardware from the First United Bank Classic in Bethel over the weekend. They followed that up with a 52-38 win over Seminole Tuesday night to push their record to 5-2 heading into Thursday’s home opener with Jones.
