County transactions need to be public

Openness should be supreme when it comes to meetings and records of public bodies. We see and hear of boards, councils, other public bodies that either ignore or attempt to skirt the Open Meetings and Records Act. Non-profits are subject to the law when they receive any kind of public funding.

About eight years ago I started trying to take a walk each day to help me get more exercise. I usually tried to walk around a mile, some days a little less, some a little more. With my cell phone on my hip, it’s easy to keep track of the steps I’m taking and how far I go.

Arraignment on two felonies

A driver facing two felonies for running a pair of roadblocks has waived his preliminary hearing and his arraignment has been scheduled. Joshua Wade Pleasant, 34, Shawnee, was formally charged in Lincoln County District Court on Aug. 1, 2022 with two felony counts of running a roadblock.

Hearing set in Wellston shooting

A pre-preliminary hearing has been continued for a Midwest City man, facing three felonies following a Lincoln County shooting near Wellston last month that injured a person. Casey Mac Wilson, 42, was formally charged in Lincoln County District Court on Feb.

Arraignment...

Associate District Judge Sheila Kirk on Aug. 8. He reappeared before her on Aug. 15 and the matter was set for Aug. 18. Special Judge Emily Mueller on Aug. 18 continued the matter until Sep.15 and ordered Pleasant to be present with an attorney.

When I read the New Testament I can see there is nothing more important than for us to do the will of God. This is for us to keep the sayings of Jesus. Really when we do, it will be Jesus in us doing them. We will never fear death if we fear God only. In fact, we will never see death.

Charges filed after Stroud pursuit

A driver who already has multiple felony convictions and now four new charges after he reportedly led Stroud police on a high speed pursuit and was arrested has made his initial appearance.

Stroud announces valedictorians, salutatorian

Stroud High School has announced its valedictorians and salutatorian for the Class of 2023. Valedictorians are Taylor Gunter, Kenlee Parrick, Merci McCracken, Baley Bivin, Kaley Bivin, Conner Wilson, Emily Jackson and Gage Wilson. The salutatorian is Hailey Thornhill.

Three charged with murder, desecration

A first degree murder charge and two other felonies have been filed in connection with the disappearance of a man who disappeared more than two years ago in Pottawatomie County.

Bodies found after fire

A fire that destroyed a house in Stroud on March 8 was determined to be fatal nearly a week later when remains of at least two persons were discovered inside. Stroud Fire Chief Cliff Wilson said firefighters responded to the house fire that broke out around 4 a.m. at 910 W. 4th in Stroud.
