Meeker board hears request for termination

A parent of a Special Needs student called for the termination of a Meeker School District employee during a Board of Education meeting Monday night. Cassie Beeson addressed the board during the public comments session of the meeting, saying, “I am here to take a stand on behalf of my daughter.

Jury trials set for Stroud man in two cases

Jury trials have been scheduled for a Stroud man in two separate cases, one of which he is accused of assaulting two police officers. Steven Eugene Laffoon, 52, of Stroud, was formally charged in Lincoln County District Court last Aug.

Ira Mae Willeford Wright

Ira Mae Willeford Wright was born Nov. 17, 1945 in Pauls Valley, Okla. to Ernest Ira and Betty Mae (McGregor) Willeford. She died Friday, May 6, 2022 at her rural home near Wellston at the age of 76. She wed Bill McKee in 1960. She later married Calvin O’Neal in 1964.

Betty Jo Bowen

Betty Jo Bowen, a longtime resident of Chandler, Okla., died May 3, 2022, in Chandler, at the age of 83. Betty Jo was born in Davenport, Okla., Nov. 4, 1938, to Carl Jerome and Lois Opal (Tunnell) Anderson.

Gerald Leon Cooper was born September 22, 1942, in Reno, Nev., and died Thursday, April 28, 2022, in Meeker. He was 79 years old. Cooper worked in the oilfield as a tool pusher.

Kevin Dewayne Elias

Kevin Dewayne Elias, 63, died May 2, 2022, at his home in Tulsa, Okla. Kevin was born at Bristow Memorial Hospital, Bristow, Okla., Feb. 22, 1959, to Tyrone James Elias and Norma Rose (Hurst) Elias. He was the middle son of three boys. Kevin graduated from Chandler High School, Chandler, Okla.

Carolyn Sue Stallings

Carolyn Sue Stallings was born Sept. 10, 1945 in Yale, Okla. to James and Bertha (Johnston) Akins. She died peacefully in her home May 6, 2022 in Wellston at the age of 76.

Marion Calven Bales

Marion Calven Bales was born August 29, 1940, west of Kendrick, Okla. He died Saturday, May 7, 2022, at his home in Davenport. He was 81 years old. Bales was a 1958 graduate of Kendrick High School. He worked for Bud Blakley until retirement.
