A Lincoln County Road intersection closed March 30 after 22 cars from a freight train derailed east of Davenport remains closed as the company prepares to lay new track.

Sgt. Aaron Bennett, Public Information Officer with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, said Stillwater Central Railroad Co. has informed him, “Tracks are prepared to be laid. They are waiting on equipment and materials to begin. At this time, there is no timeline when it is to be completed,” he said he’s been told.

Bennett said the 22 derailed cars have been emptied and cleared off, he was advised.

The derailment happened at the intersection of County Road 890 and County Road 3520 on County Road 890 to the east of Davenport about ¼ of a mile around 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 30.

Bennett said earlier this week, “To our knowledge the intersection remains closed.”

Lincoln County Emergency Management Director Charlotte Brown previously has said the 22 cars that derailed were hauling gravel. “There were no hazardous materials released in the incident,” she stressed.

Brown has warned people to please refrain from visiting that area, noting, “because of the multiple heavy equipment vehicles in the area.”
