Tough times

Area teams were able to get in only minimal action over the last week, as COVID forced cancellations of more than half the games scheduled. Only 14 games - sevens boys and seven girls - were played with Stroud accounting for six of those.

Cynthia Joy Standlee

Cynthia Joy (Ramseyer) Standlee of Meeker was born February 26, 1958, in Prague. She died Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at the age of 62 years. Standlee, the daughter of Frank Carl and Phyllis Ruth (O’Brien) Ramseyer, married Darrell Lynn Standlee on October 23, 1976.

Jerry Nelson

Jerry Nelson was born March 13, 1933, in Chandler and died Saturday, January 30, 2021, in Chandler. She was 87 years old. Nelson, the daughter of Bill and Viola Sprague, married Leo Nelson of Eagle Grove, Iowa, on July 5, 1952.

Richard Eugene Shirey

Richard Eugene Shirey was born to Thurman Shirey and Clura Thompson on January 7, 1944, in Shawnee, Okla. He died Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at the age of 76 years. Richard taught for many years at Wellston Elementary School and raised and bred horses. His parents preceded him in death.

Don Wilbur Hurst

Don Wilbur Hurst of Shawnee, Okla., was born March 30, 1935, in Warwick, Okla. He died Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at the age of 85 years. Hurst owned Shawnee Asphalt Company and was a member of the church in Shawnee formerly known as Glad Tidings Assembly of God.

Carolyn Louise Harris

Carolyn Louise Harris of Shawnee, Okla., was born February 24, 1957, in Seminole, Okla. She died Monday, January 25, 2021 at the age of 63 years. A 1975 graduate of Pleasant Grove High School, Harris worked as a table games boss for Firelake Casino.
