An Agra man is accused of assaulting his mother and placing body fluid on a deputy sheriff, according to court records.

Ryan Garrett Jones, 36, was formally charged Jan. 4 in Lincoln County District Court with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon and Prisoner Placing Body Fluid on a government employee, in particular Deputy Sheriff Christopher Hyde.

Court records show Jones made his initial appearance before Associate District Judge Sheila Kirk on Jan. 4. He reappeared before the judge on Thursday, Jan. 7. A review is scheduled for Jan. 26.

His bond was set at $5,000.

Jones is accused of assaulting his mother, Alberta Jones, on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2020, with a fairly large piece of lumber, a 2x4 board, at his mother’s home, the deputy reported.

In the other felony charge, Jones reportedly expectorated saliva multiple times on the deputy after placed into custody. The deputy reported this occurred during transport between 780706 S. 3450 Road in Agra and the Lincoln County Jail.

Alberta Jones advised authorities she required medical treatment due to the injuries she had sustained.

Deputies Hyde and James Robinson were dispatched to that residence to investigate the reported assault and battery just before 7 p.m. Christmas evening.

According to a report, when deputies arrived on the scene, the front door was locked and Alberta advised she could not unlock the door and gave deputies permission to forcibly gain entry.

They kicked the front door of the residence and made entry. They couldn’t locate her at first, but found Ryan Jones in a bed while searching for her.

Deputy Hyde reported he and Robinson stood Jones up and handcuffed him and detained him until they could locate Alberta.

Hyde took Ryan back to the front door and Robinson finally located the victim.

Robinson advised Hyde her injuries were severe and they had to have medical personnel enter the residence.

The victim was later transported to Mercy Hospital by helicopter due to the extent of her injuries, Hyde reported.

Hyde said he placed Ryan Jones under arrest for assault and battery and began to walk him back to his patrol car. The deputy stated Jones was irate and yelled obscenities at all personnel on the scene.

As he was transporting Jones back to the Lincoln County Jail, Hyde reported Jones spit on him several times through the partition. Jones was advised several times to stop, the deputy said, but continued several minutes before finally stopping.
