Stroud school board meeting

The Stroud Board of Education this week approved several resignations, among them two longtime employees of the district.

Board members also approved the evaluation of the superintendent, extending his contract through 2023-2024 with an annual raise.

The resignations approved include Brenda Gooch, Parkview Elementary School Principal; Athletic Director Bob Wood; Kenny Gooch; and Samantha Wilbanks.

Brenda Gooch’s resignation is effective June 30, 2021. A source in the school district said Gooch has been with the Stroud School System since August of 1990. It was her first teaching job when she became a Special Education teacher more than 30 years ago.

She later taught third grade and then became principal of Parkview in August of 2005 where she has remained since.

The source said Wood came to Stroud in August of 1981 after spending a year at Perkins-Tryon. He was a science teacher and coach and later became athletic director, the position he’s held for many years.

His resignation will become effective Dec. 31, 2020.

Kenny Gooch’s resignation is effective at the end of his contract.

Wilbanks’ resignation became effective on Dec. 1 of this year.

The board members also extended Supt. Joe Van Tuyl’s contract through 2023-2024 and he will also receive a $5,000 raise each year.

The board’s actions on the superintendent’s evaluation and contract and the resignations came after a 25-minute executive session.
