Town Talk

Thank you to the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Stroud for another great Christmas parade.

There was a nice crowd and a fun time was had by all. The parade had a total of 38 entrants. Projects like this take lots of work from everyone involved. Stroud is lucky to have such great volunteers.

Thank you to everyone who entered the ugly sweater contest and congratulations to all the winners.

The Steve Massey family won the Group and Best of Show prizes. Jordan Lee took the win in the Youth division and Savannah Jordan won the Adult division.

The Chamber of Commerce awarded $50 to each winner. Float winners were Mint Turbines for Best Float and Stroud Girl Scouts for Best Youth float.

Unique Market’s new building is about finished. They will be moving into their new space after the holidays.

Dr. Francis and Mark Poskey have new buildings going up on each end of Main Street.

There is also activity at the building on Main Street that was once home to the Sparks Winery Tasting Room.

Nice to see so much activity going on with our business district. It’s also nice to have our neighbors to the south, Prague Florist, on Main Street in their “pop up” holiday shop.

The American Legion Auxiliary held their monthly meeting on Monday night.

Those attending were Jo Braden, Thelma Mauldin, Keturah Brown, Aleta Smalley, Julie Bivin, Delores Hamlin and Diana Reed.

The ladies had dinner together to celebrate the holiday season and there was lots of fun and laughter.

Business items discussed were how to honor our veterans this Christmas and ideas for the January meeting.

That meeting will be held on January 3rd at 6:00 p.m. at the American Legion building.

David Evans and I spend two days this past week tearing down an old storage shed at the American Legion.

The building was donated to Town Talk by the Legion to be used for the mini-golf club house.

Since our organization has limited funds, David decided economically the best thing to do was try to salvage anything we could from this building.

This shed was ten feet wide and that is wider than we need. About two feet on the floor boards was rotted.

We can take those boards, cut off two feet and still have an 8-foot board that is useable. This will save us money and make the project more affordable.

David Evans, Elbert Wells and John Owens will work to rebuild this structure into our club house.

Taking it apart was not an easy task and David, of course, did most of the “heavy” labor. I did learn to use an electric drill though and was able to help load the materials we managed to save.

Christmas is now less than three weeks away. If you haven’t finished your Christmas shopping, please be sure to check out our local retail merchants before leaving town. Gift certificates make a great gift, too, so check out our service businesses for things such as oil changes, gas cards, a new pair of eyeglasses, etc. Our restaurants would be happy, I’m sure, to help you with your holiday menu.

You can find most anything you need right here in our community.

Thank you for choosing to shop local………….. first!
