Riverfield Country Day School held on for a dramatic 53-50 win Tuesday night in Kellyville and ended Wellston’s season with a 53-50 decision in the area consolation finals.
The Tigers ended their season with a 16-10 record that included games against four state tournaments and at least one state champion.
Wellston faced Class B champ Glencoe and Cashion, which is playing in the Class 2A state tournament this week.
Unranked going into the playoffs, Wellston beat three straight ranked teams before falling to No. 3 Vanoss, 49-34, in the winners’ bracket of the area tournament.
That loss dropped the Tigers into the consolation finals’ matchup with Riverside.
