District Champs:

Stroud, Prague Lock Up 1st Place Hardware

Stroud’s Tigers and the Prague Red Devils punctuated their seasons on Friday with district championships, but did it in different ways.

Stroud continued its march through District A-6 with a 55-0 blistering of Wewoka in a game that was supposed to be played in Wewoka but was moved to Stroud because of safety concerns. Prague took a far move dramatic route, coming from behind to nip Vian, 29-23, in overtime.

Although both teams have another game remaining, they have mathematically clinched their championships.

As District 6A champion, Stroud will host the No. 4 team in District 5A in the first round of the playoffs. That most likely will be Tonkawa or Morrison, depending the results of next week’s games.

Prague will host the No. 4 team in District 2A-6, which, as of this week, would be Spiro.

Chandler, Meeker and North Rock Creek have locked up playoff berths, as well, with Chandler clinching a home-field game in the first round by beating Star-Spencer, 23-14, Friday night.

The Lions play Luther at home this week in the regular-season finale.

As the No. 2 team in District 2A-1, the Lions would host the No. 3 team in 2A-1 in the first round. That could be Oklahoma Christian School, Chisholm, Alva or Perry, depending on this week’s results.

Meeker plays Star-Spencer at home this week and will lock up third place with a win. In a worst-case scenario, they could finish in a tie Luther and/or Crossings, but the Bulldogs have beaten both those teams and would have the head-to-head tie-breaker.

As the third-place team, they would travel to play the No. 2 team in District 2A-1. That would depend on the outcome of the Oklahoma Christian School-Chisholm game this weekend.

North Rock Creek clinched its first-ever playoff spot by beating Kingfisher, 12-10, Friday night. The Cougars play at Metro Christian this week. A win would give them a home-field berth in the first round.
