The high school pom squads from Chandler and Stroud walked away with state championships this past weekend in Tulsa, according to their coaches.
Stroud also won coach of the year.
The teams competed at the OSDTDA State Championships at Cox Business Center in Tulsa. Solos and ensembles competed on Friday, while the team events for junior high and high school took place on Saturday. On Sunday, all teams that won state championships were invited back to compete in Battle of the Champions.
According to Charity Dempsey, coach of the Chandler High School team, the team walked away Saturday as 3A/4A Jazz State Champions and 3A/4A HipHop State Champions. Eight members also won Academic All-State.
“The girls danced great,” Dempsey said.
Stroud brought home state championships in three categories - A/2A Game Day, A/2A Hiphop, and A/2A Jazz - and brought home Coach of the Year for coach Kelsey Harris. They also had one member make Academic All-State.
Additionally, the junior high team for Chandler won first place in seventhgrade mix, first in eighth-grade jazz, Junior High Team Academic State Champions, and dancer Adler Ball placed ninth in junior high solos.
Those who won Academic All-State from Chandler High School are Kalee Peery, Tatum Crouch, Halli Murray, Cali Hilgenfeld, Mattie White, Journey Sanchez, Brooklyn Eyestone and Paidyn Eyestone.
Academic All-State from Stroud High School is Erin Sellers.
