Town Talk

Thank you to Town Talk volunteer Mandy Clark for all her hard work on another successful Farmer’s Market.

I was out of town and did not get to attend but heard rave reviews and saw many positive comments on Facebook.

Town Talk appreciates all our local folks who come out to support this event. If you missed this one, don’t despair. We will be hosting another one in September.

We had a fun time last Thursday night at the Skyliner helping new owners Alfreidya Webster and Larry Henderson. Their latest project is to paint the back side of the real estate office that butts up to their property.

Pastor Barnes ran the weed eater to get the wall ready. Volunteers Jim Hodgens and Michael Horwath power washed the building in preparation to paint.

Other volunteers pitching in were Aleta Smalley, David Evans, Jasper Horwath, Alfreidya Webster and Larry Henderson along with myself.

City Manager Bob Pearman stopped by after council meeting.

Town Talk volunteer Julie Bivin took a break from watering our Main Street flowers to see if we needed any help.

Alfreidya provided pizza and cold drinks to everyone. It was a great time of helping and community fellowship.

All volunteers were planning on painting the wall, but Michael Horwath said he would spray paint it this week for the motel.

Ryan Thibeault, with Tebo Barn, stopped by the Skyliner Motel on Sunday on his cross-country trip on Route 66. He was driving a 1929 Model A Ford and started his trip in New Hampshire and is driving all the way to the Pacific Ocean. He brought along a platform on the top of his car just in case the only overnight option was roadside camping.

Rhys Martin, OK Route 66 Association President, stated on Facebook “This was very much in the spirit of the era when this car was king.”

You can meet lots of interesting people traveling through our little town because we are blessed to have Route 66 as our Main Street.

To follow Ryan’s journey on Route 66 in his old mobile, add him on Facebook at @tebo_barn.

Our second shipment of flowerpots arrived last week. We ordered 32 pots and 8 of them arrived broken on this trip.

We are trying to locate additional pots for all of you who have placed an order. I have been told more will arrive in Texas on the 26th so let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Town Talk has another “Block Party” scheduled for this Wednesday night, August 25th , at 7:00 p.m. Let’s meet at the pavilion.

Our focus is going to be grass on the sidewalks and streets so bring your weed eaters, shovels and clippers and we’ll see you Wednesday.

Our next Main Street “Clean Up, Spruce Up” meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 25th at 6:00 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce conference room.

All business owners and community volunteers are encouraged to attend. Hope you can join us.

I read a sign that said, “I pledge to shop local, dine local, enjoy local and support the small local businesses that support my community and me.”

I think this would be a great pledge for all of us. Have a great week and let’s keep it local!
