Bride-to-be Anita Reynolds, along with her sister Rita from Oklahoma City, Marilyn Wheeler and Robin Smith made a surprise visit to Prairie Pointe Saturday afternoon.
They brought wedding shower cookies, fruit and cups of special libations for fellow First Christian Church members and Prairie Pointe residents Keturah Brown, Glenda Rains, Thelma Mauldin and Jo Sperry.
Thanks to “Rona” (Covid 19), our ladies were unable to attend the event but it was so nice to be thought of and included in this way.
Prairie Pointe is excited to welcome new resident Margie Testerman of Cushing. Margie is a published author of poems and was recently selected as a 2020 AARP Ok Indian Elder Honoree. She has already written a poem dedicated to Lisa Gordon’s grandson, Bryson, whose first words each morning are “The sun is awake!”
Church services are held at Prairie Pointe each Sunday right after lunch. Helen Arrington has shared a lesson based on Mark 2, the story of four friends working together to get a paralyzed friend to Jesus.
She reminded us that faith is necessary to make it through tough situations--such as Prairie Pointe residents in lockdown!
We must work together as a family. Rae Bland has also taught lessons on faith from scripture read by Beverley Graham from the Books of James, Hebrews and Judges. Fretting over our suffering stirs the pot of anger, resentment, bitterness and an unwillingness to forgive.
When we let those emotions control our behavior, the result is sin; however, trials give us an opportunity to trust and have joy in God’s presence in our lives.
Thanks to Koree Byford, we also always have good hymns to sign along with and enjoy.
Rachel Handley’s grandson Andrew Handley came by and assembled a new table lamp for her.
Thanks, Andrew! You are her favorite grandson ……..today…..well, actually, just Saturday evening and part of Sunday.
We kid because we love.
Prairie Pointe residents got a real treat last Sunday evening.
Homemade ice cream was served out front under the portico by Phil Wright and Anita Reynolds while gospel music played in the background.
It was delicious and everyone had a good time.
Anita is the daughter of former resident Alton Mc-Cune who during his residency here was our Mr. Fix-it.
Earlier in the summer, Alton had painted a set of lawn chairs bright cherry red with white lattice work backs. Anita and Phil spent the last evening of Alton’s life with him here at Prairie Pointe watching 4th of July fireworks ‘til well after 10 p.m.
The couple plan to be married Saturday, September 5 at the First Christian Church.
I lost the bet!
Mr. G. Edward Barrett and his cat Henry made it without mishap or misfortune to the Sacramento area of California.
I still say “Give it time.”
If you watch any national news, no doubt you have heard how the post office is bracing for an unprecedented number of mail-in ballots as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.
It is also predicted the post office will be so overwhelmed, many ballots will not be delivered in time to be counted.
We at Prairie Pointe have a simple solution: put a two week moratorium on junk mail.
You know—all the stuff that Larry Hall hauls to Prairie Pointe every day and we haul to the trash every night.
Surely if the U.S. Post Office did not have to deliver all those catalogs, credit card offers, magazine offers, donation requests, retail promotions, etc. etc. for two weeks, they could handle the extra mail-in ballots.
Of course there are probably many reasons why this would not work but it sure sounds like a plan to us.
We continue to enjoy a good laugh every day after lunch when we read from Erma Bombeck’s book “When you look like your passport photo, it’s time to go home.”
We also want to read “Motherhood: The Second Oldest Profession” and “Family: The Ties That Bind….and Gag!”
We love to laugh at Prairie Pointe and Erma Bombeck is the perfect entertainment.
