Updates from Meeker Town Hall

1. Update on “Quapaw 15 Project/Meeker Lake

A. Surveyors finished second go round. Actually 3rd time: hope all the surveying matched up this time.

B. FYI, for your information, I saw a lot of ODOT trucks and men stopped on Kickapoo, South of Hwy. 62 at Quapaw Bridge. I noticed Comm. Lee Doolin there as I pulled up & he came to the car & told me they were all discussing the new paved road that is getting ready to be put in place with new tinhorns & guard rails to be installed. It will be a great asset for our Town for a new asphalt road from Hwy. 62 all the way to I-40.

2. Update on Glenncrest Park

A. Pour #4 has been completed.

B. Friday the last section will be formed & rebar put in place.

C. U.S. Steel called about our pavilion & told me that our building is being manufactured in Missouri & the Missouri Governor put the entire state on COVID shutdown. Well that is kind of par for the course. But we will stay positive & look for the day it does come. It will look great with its shiny red roof & white ceiling. It will provide a great cover for many good times to come. 3. Update on Parade

3. Update on Parade & Festival of the Lights

A. As you read this, I hope you enjoyed these events as they will continue to grow each year. Start making your plans now for next year’s events.

B. Homestead Park lights & displays will be up until the 1st of January for all to enjoy, so drive by at night and enjoy the light up displays.

C. Enjoy looking at all the sponsored bricks with family names on them. Businesses, churches & Org. are also there.

D. Enjoy the new lighted U.S.A. flagpole & pay respect for what it means. Many men & women gave their lives so that we can do what we do now.

E. Most of all remember the reason for the season is that God sent his son to atone for the sins of humanity & as believers & overcomers, we can enjoy a wonderful life.

4. Update on Grants

A. The broken main water line from Meeker Lake to water plant is in the beginning stages of repair. This project will be funded by F.E.M.A. The money is already allocated.

B. The OWRB Emergency Grant for the collapsed sewer line, S. of the Catholic Church, is being finalized & closed out.

C. The REAP Grant from COEDD for repaving on Koonce was accepted & the money will be here after the 1st of the New Year 2021. We asked for $79K & received $50K.

We have applied for an Environmental Grant from Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, asking for $10K and we have also applied for a Roadside Grant from Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, asking for $10K. We received the Cares Act Funding for Meeker in the amount of $87,500.

All the due diligence that the Town employees have done is really starting to show.

So, when you see the guys around Town in their safety yellow shirts with their ANSI safety reflective stripes, take a moment & Thank them for their behind the scenes work.

Also, please show respect & thank the ladies at City Hall for all that they do. You would not believe all the extra things that all the Town employees do for our residents.

So be happy, smile & say Thank you to all City Employees, all your friends, neighbors & family. Let’s make this Season a very Joyous season.

Remember to stay positive so we can get this country back to where it needs to be.

Please keep your social distancing of six feet, wash hands often, and keep sanitizing.

We appreciate all our local businesses and your support and spending your money locally helps keep them in business. The local businesses appreciate the support.
