Dip in education sales tax

The education sales tax figures in December show a decline from November in all of the three area school districts in Pottawatomie County that receive it and for the DA Justice Center, the Pottawatomie County Treasurer’s office reports.

The figures for December are based on retail sales throughout the county during October. of 2020.

The Pottawatomie County education sales tax of .495 percent went into effect July 1, 2016 following approval by county voters in November of 2015.

The October taxes were submitted to the Oklahoma Tax Commission in November and distributed back to the county in December.

County Treasurer Wendy Magnus reported the December amount for the McLoud School District is 47,103.28.

In November the figure was $47,926.49. That’s a decline of more than $800.

McLoud received a total of $548,173.80 from the tax in 2020.

Dale School District’s December amount is $22,472.76.

The November check was for $22,865.51

Dale’s total from the tax this calendar is $259,185.45

The figure for the North Rock Creek School District in December is $25,390.01.

In November, it was $25,833.75.

Total for 2020 through 12 months from the tax is $265,099.28.

The Justice Center’s check in December is $3,599.62 The amount in November was $3,662.54. The total for the calendar year for the Justice Center from the sales tax is $41,420.47.

The amount directed monthly to each of the schools’ accounts is based on average daily attendance from last year that is submitted to the county treasurer each August. The amounts schools are now receiving are based on the 2019-2020 school year, Magnus said.

The Citizen Potawatomi Nation made three distributions this calendar year to the three schools and the Justice Center as a partial match to the sales tax.

The total distribution made to each of the schools and the Justice Center so far this year include: McLoud, $22,010.52; Dale, $10,389.01; North Rock Creek School, $10,412.25; the Justice Center, $1,659.54
