Town Talk

March is full of birthdays in the Smalley household. I recently found out a dear friend of mine also celebrates a birthday in March – Pat Owens.

If you have lived in Stroud any length of time, I’m sure you know Pat Owens. She was Dr. Market’s nurse for many years.

I remember her taking care of me when the clinic was located on 4th Avenue. Pat and her late husband, Frank, raised four Stroud graduates; David, Buddy, Ricky and Randy.

Pat’s family hosted a surprise birthday party for her this past Sunday and she was Queen for the Day. It was fun to visit with all of them.

It was also fun to visit with former Stroudites attending from out of town. I had a nice visit with J.R. Owens and his wife Kay.

I was also happy to see Darrell Kirk and his wife Sandy who currently reside in Bixby. Darrell and his family are ones that longtime residents of Stroud should also remember.

Darrell’s parents were Richard and Norma Kirk. Darrell’s siblings were Eddie, Susan, Phillip (Buster) and Steve.

Town Talk has received $2,250.00 in memory of Gary for the Bugle Boy. Thanks again to everyone who has contributed.

Our statue is on order and as I’ve said, it should take six months to complete.

I did find out they will send us a clay mold of the statue before they carve the final one so we can make sure it’s exactly what we want.

It is going to be hard for me to be patient for six months, but it will give Town Talk time to raise funds needed to pay the balance.

I think it will be a wonderful addition to our Main Street and something people will want to come experience.

Events for the week are the Chamber of Commerce banquet this Thursday evening, March 17th.

You might want to wear green since it will be Saint Patrick’s Day. It will be nice to bring the community together since due to COVID it has been two years since we’ve been able to have a banquet.

This Friday March 18th Pake McEntire, brother to Reba, will be at the Lazy J. There is no cover charge, and the show starts at 7:00 p.m. The next food pantry date will be Tuesday, March 22nd.

We found out with this last rain that our golf course club house roof leaks, not a little like we thought at first but a lot.

We tried to save money and roofed it with used tin but it didn’t quite work out for us. We will be replacing the roof soon. Sometimes it seems like one step forward and two steps back, but we will get ‘er done.

We are planning for a grand opening Memorial Day weekend, and we are determined to make that happen.

Remember all our local merchants as you prepare for your Easter gettogethers.

I know Easter is not until next month, but you must get your items before they move on to the next holiday.

Have great week and remember to shop and dine local…………….first!
