October Lions of the Month

Chandler High School recently announced that the October Lions of the Month are Trever Spruill and Laryssa Nunn.

Trever is the son of Kevin and Celeste Spruill. As a senior at Chandler High School Spruill maintains an unweighted GPA of 3.89. He has also taken four years of Advanced English classes. Spruill is an Academic Banquet attendee, a Gifted and Talented member and is named to the honor roll.

His school activities include band, choir, drama, Positive Peers, Academic Team and National Honor Society. Spruill serves his community through the OKC Food bank, as a volunteer at the Lincoln County Museum of Pioneer History, and by singing for the elderly in nursing homes. He is also a member of the Chandler First Baptist Church.

After high school Trever plans to attend college for a bachelors in Vocal music Education and then get a masters degree in Music Theory and Composition. Once he graduates from college he plans on being a composer along with being a professor of music and a performer.

Laryssa Nunn is the daughter of Daniel and Jennifer Nunn. She is a member of the Chandler high School. She is a senior at Chandler High School and maintains at 4.0 GPA. Nunn has taken four years of advanced classes in English. She is also taking concurrent classes in history, College Algebra, psychology and government.

She is a member of the Gifted and Talented Program, the ECOCDA Regional Honor Choir and the Oklahoma Honor Society. Nunn has received Academic Letter and Academic Excellence honors for three years. She has also been named to the Superintendent’s Honor Roll for three years. Nunn is a part of the Chandler Vocal Music Programs and the Chandler High School Academic Team. She also serves as football manager.

Nunn has served as the Freshman Class Vice President, Sophomore Class Vice President and Junior Class President. She is a member of Postponing Sexual Involvement, the National Honor Society, Student Council, Superintendent Hofmeister’s Student Advisory Council and the BancFirst Student Board of Directors. She has attended the Hugh O’Bryan Youth Leadership Seminar, ALA Oklahoma Girls State and the National Youth Leadership Forum for Advanced Medicine and Healthcare in Baltimore, Maryland. Nunn is also the Student Council Representative for the National Honor Society, the first leader of the new CHS Native American Student Association and secretary for the Music Makers High School Choir.

Laryssa has prepared gift bags for health department employees, presented at the 2019 Girl Power Conference, volunteered for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, volunteered for the Lincoln County Health Department, volunteered at the Lincoln County Partnership for Child Wellbeing’s Boots and Pearls Community Event, volunteered at Special Olympics 2022 in Stillwater, shadowed Dr. Crouch at Crouch Family Medicine and read to classes at Park Road Elementary and Prague Elementary. She also annu-ally sings for members of the community for Valentine’s Day. Nunn was also selected to be a 2020/2021 Sweetheart Ambassador for the American Heart Association.

After Nunn graduates from high school she plans to attend Northeastern State University, majoring in communications with a minor in Cherokee Cultural Studies. After receiving her bachelors degree she intends to apply to the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and attend the D.O. program, specializing in pediatrics. Nunn plans to return to Chandler after medical school in order to open her own pediatric practice to serve her community and the communities around Chandler.
