Stroud and Dale fastpitch closed out the season last weekend as two of the top four teams in the state in Class 2A. Stroud, winners in 12 of its previous 13 games, beat Amber-Pocassett 9-2 in the first round of the state tournament on Thursday, then fell 7-3 to finals-bound Dale on Friday.

Big win for the Tigers

Once they got past a penalty-filled first quarter, the Wellston Tigers had little trouble dispatching the Sunrise Christian Academy Buffaloes, 58-28, on Homecoming Friday night. The first period dragged on as the officials paced off penalty yards in both directions, but the Tigers punctuated the flags with back-to-back one-play scoring drives to take a 20- 14 lead.

Stroud D keys win over Choteau

The Stroud Tigers picked up their first win of the season Friday, blanking Chouteau, 25-0. It was the first time for the Tigers to be on the field in almost a month, thanks to opponents cancelling games due to COVID-19 outbreaks.

Lions go to 2-1 in district play

Chandler hammered Star-Spencer, 41-8, Friday night, setting up a key district clash this week against Millwood, which is 2-0 in district after beating Meeker 40-0 on Saturday night. The Millwood game will be at 7 p.m.

A Celebration of Life service for Kay Vann “K.V.” Williams, age 90, of Enid, Okla., will be 10 a.m., Thursday, October 15, 2020, at Emmanuel Enid Church with Pastor Wade Burleson officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 pm at Davenport Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home in Enid.

Harold Dwane Gouker

Harold Dwane Gouker, 86, a longtime resident of Meeker, Okla., passed away peacefully on October 2, 2020 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Harold was born August 11, 1934 in Meeker to Earnest and Cora (Roller) Gouker. Harold graduated from Meeker High School in 1952. After high school, he served our country in the United States Army for two years.

Prague resident Iva Joyce Leister passed away Friday, October 9, 2020, at the age of 85. She was born July 19, 1935, in Sparks, Okla. to Ludy Leek and Iva Lee (Swaney) Neighbours. She graduated from Sparks High School in 1952 at the age of 16.
