Large one burns south of Stroud
Firefighters from eight different fire departments along with Lincoln County Emergency Management responded to a wildfire last week between Davenport and Stroud.
Cody McDonell, Deputy Director of Lincoln County Emergency Management, said the first call came in around 1 p.m.
“It started around South 3540 and East 930 Roads,” he noted.
By late that afternoon, he explained, “We had it pretty well contained.
“We have somewhat of an idea of how it started, but not for sure yet. Grass fires can run in weird ways, and this was no exception,” McDonell said.
“This new drone was invaluable,” he added. A rough estimate was that the fire burned at least 133 acres, McDonell thought. “Looks like it started along East 930 Road.
“It doesn’t look like it was accidental,” McDonell said. He pointed out and wants people to remember, “That just because it’s cold outside, it doesn’t mean the fire danger is gone. This was an incredibly hard fire to fight due to the terrain and windy conditions.”
He said fire departments responding included Stroud, Arlington, Sparks, Chandler, Prague, Davenport, Northeast Fire and Kendrick Fire.
“There’s pretty high fire danger most days,” McDonell said.
