Driver dies in I-44 crash

A truck driver was killed and four other persons were injured, two critically, in a traffic collision involving six vehicles on the Turner Turnpike in Lincoln County.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Matt Conway of the Traffic Homicide Traffic Unit reported it was snowing at the time of the fatal collision.

He identified the truck driver who was killed as Spencer Atiga, 21, of Chula Vista, Calif. Conway said he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Medical Examier due to head, arm, leg, internal and external trunk injuries.

He said a passenger, identified as Kolton Began-Tlatero, was ejected from the 2020 Kenworth truck driven by Atiga. He was transported by Creek County EMS to St. Francis Medical Center in Tulsa and admitted in critical condition with internal trunk injuries.

Another driver, Ollie Dumas, Jr., 59 of East Chicago, Ill., was taken by Miller EMS to St. Francis Medical Center in Tulsa and was admitted in good condition with leg and internal trunk injuries, the trooper stated.

Conway reported that Morgan Miller, 38, of Kansas, Okla., driver of a 2006 Hyundai Sante Fe, was transported to St. Francis. She was in good condition with arm, leg and internal trunk injuries.

A passenger identified as Andrew Bowlin, 37, of Tahlequah, was ejected from her vehicle, Conway said, and was transported by Creek County EMS to OU Medical Center in Tulsa in critical condition with internal trunk injuries.

The trooper stated two other drivers, Michael Young, 49, of Indianapolis, Ind., driving a 2014 Mack Truck and Erik Sarukhanyan, 32 of Hoffman Estates, Il., driving a 2017 Freightliner, were not injured in the collision.

A sixth vehicle, listed as vehicle No. 1, is unknown, Conway reported.

The trooper said the fatality collision occurred at around 10:35 p.m. on I-44 westbound near mile 182, about two miles east of Stroud in Lincoln County.

Conway said cause of the collision is still under investigation and what happened also is still under investigation.

The trooper reported seat belts were equipped in all of the vehicles and use of them by occupants of the vehicles is still under investigation.
