A big thank you to City Manager Bob Pearman and his crew for painting the Foster Park sign. It looks amazing. I’ve been driving by that sign for as long as I can remember and as I’ve said earlier, I think I took it for granted. As I look at things with a different eye, thinking about what we can do for our community to make it the best it can be I see things with a new perspective. The sign needed attention and now it looks good as new. Thank you, again, to Jo Braden, Nellie Faye Cooper, Pat Poskey and Lavina Hinman for putting the finishes touches on it with flowers in its base. We have a great city park and should be proud of it. OneCura, our hospital management company, has donated funds for us to purchase a shade awning for our playground equipment in the park. It has been ordered. Hopefully, it will be up sometime this summer so our kiddos can enjoy playing in the park. With this awning they can enjoy playing outside in a cooler environment and avoid those damaging sun rays. OneCura is so supportive of community projects and we can’t thank them enough for this contribution.
Lake Ranger Jared Null will be our newest veteran added to our Main Street Walk of Honor. Jared graduated from Drumright High School but has been our lake ranger for several years. He shared with me that he really liked his job and enjoyed Stroud. We are happy to claim him as one of our own. Walk of Honor banners are still available to purchase. Order yours today so that it will be up in time for Memorial Day. Town Talk will have
their first Main Street clean-up night on Wednesday, May 19th at 6:00 p.m. Bring your weed eaters, grass blowers, clippers, brooms, etc. and come join us. We want to have everything in great shape for Alumni/ Memorial Day weekend. I’m from the era when Wednesday night was reserved for church activities and I really do believe in that concept. Everyone’s lives are so busy that Wednesday night is about the only available night to get a group together.
Not all churches have Wednesday night services anymore. So, against my teaching but believing that God honors our spirit and what we are trying to accomplish for our community, we are working on Wednesday. It’s a great time of community fellowship as well. Town Talk is still looking for volunteers to help us water our Main Street plants. Mom and I water on Mondays, Julie Bivin and Linda Waller water on Thursdays and Cathy Terry and Andrea and Raphe Thompson water on Saturdays. See, even men can water. Pick a day and give me a call at 918-527-9833. We could use your help.
We are still waiting on some dry weather to begin work on our golf course. Looks like we could have another rainy week but at this point next week looks like the rain might be gone for a few days. Don’t give up on us. We will eventually have Putt-Putt Kicks on Route 66 up and running.
As you’re planning your Alumni/Memorial Day weekend activities don’t forget to check out our local merchants. It’s always a great weekend to grill outside and I’m sure you can find everything you need for that outdoor BBQ dinner right here in Stroud, OK. Have a great week and remember to shop and dine local………………. first!
