Town Talk

It looks like we are finally going to have a couple of weeks of dry weather.

That is good news for our mini-golf course. Plans are to level the ground this week and have the “club house” delivered by Monday. We hope to accomplish a lot with this project over the next two weeks.

Veteran’s banners are still available for purchase for Stroud’s “Walk of Honor.”

Veterans being honored do not have to be residents of Stroud.

We are proud of all our veterans. Call me at 918-527-9833 to purchase one.

The Chamber of Commerce’s annual Wine Festival will be held this weekend in downtown Stroud.

It’s nice to have it up and running again. Last year’s festival had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. There is always a good turnout with locals attending as well as out of town visitors.

Have you noticed the beautiful new sign in town? Stroud has a new barber shop opening soon. Chong Horwath is opening her shop on the north side of Main on 4th Avenue. Chong recently moved here from Arizona joining her husband, Mike Horwath. Mike is employed by Mint Turbine and is the current American Legion Commander of Post #257. Chong has over 30 years in her business and specializes in military haircuts.

We have a new “handyman” in town, Bryan Vickrey. Bryan and his wife, Mary, recently moved to Stroud from Georgia. Their daughter is one of the representatives from Stroud’s American Legion Auxiliary for Girls State this year.

Even though Bryan is new to our community, his family has a long history here. Bryan is the son of Stroud High School graduates Larry and Diana (Garrett) Vickrey and the grandson of Stroud’s own Wanda Garrett. I’m sure many of you remember his paternal grandparents, Ray and Kathryn Vickrey, who were beloved custodians with Stroud schools for many years. It’s great to have another generation of Vickrey/ Garrett residents in our community.

“Jack of all Trades” are hard to find these days but Bryan is a good one. Carlton Rill is another talented craftsman and Jerry Smith is also available for just about any job around the house you might need completed. To contact any of these men, give me a call and I’ll give you there contact information.

The rain is over but you can still use your umbrella as a parasol and take it with you to protect you from these hot days coming our way. Walk down Main Street and read Stroud’s Walk of Honor and visit our local merchants. Have a great week and thank you for choosing to shop local………………first!
