Town Talk says thank you to Ken and Celeste Carpenter for allowing us to place our Stroud celebrity posters in their building’s windows at the corner of 4th Avenue and Main Street. Gene and Debbie McElroy allowed us to place them in the windows at their building on Main Street until it rented and so we say thank you to them, also.

I’m glad the pictures are back up in time for alumni weekend.

Marvin Russell, Class of 1954, recently passed away. Graveside services were held for him at the Stroud Cemetery on May 16th. Joann Page of Davenport also recently passed away on April 20th. Joann’s husband Burt was a plumber in Stroud for many years. Together they raised eight children and four of them, Jowana, Twilla, Shane, and Derrick were all graduates of Stroud High School. Graveside services were held for Joann on May 17th at the Stroud Cemetery. Town Talk offers its condolences to the Russell and Page families.

Despite the weather baseball season keeps rolling on. Gideon’s team had last weekend off but will travel to Norman this weekend to compete in the Five Tool Oklahoma 14U State Championship. Twenty-four teams are entered in the tournament. August and Lincoln played this past weekend in Tulsa. Stroud players collecting hits in their first pool game were August, Lincoln and Greyson Hubbard. August hit a double scoring one run and also drove in a run. In their second pool game, Stroud player Kanon Hilbert hit a double. Both August and Lincoln spent some time on the mound. Tournament play began on Sunday but was delayed due to rain and lightning and eventually the games had to be cancelled. The Naturals will take Memorial Day weekend off.

Be sure and check out our local merchants this weekend for your graduation gifts, Memorial Day flowers and alumni gear. Don’t forget to take the time to come out to the cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Monday to help the Legion and Auxiliary pay homage to our deceased veterans. Have a safe and fun weekend and thank you for continuing to shop local…………first.
