AVEM Health Partners in partnership with Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative, Stroud in Action, and Rural Wellness Stroud Hospital is sponsoring a free workshop on Wednesday, October 9th from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m. The workshop is titled “Social Determinants of Health.” The workshop will be held at First United Methodist Church located at 324 North 2nd Avenue in Stroud. Lunch will be provided. You may register by calling the Stroud Hospital.
Heather Chace is asking for support of Stroud High School Student Council leaders. They are hosting a golf tournament to help raise funds for the State Leadership Convention, Little Gifts, Big Hearts (provides gifts to Parkview Elementary students), State leadership workshops, Dude Be Nice week, and various other student activities at Stroud High School. You may be a tournament sponsor or register to play by e-mailing Heather at heather.chace@stroud.k12.ok.us or by contacting any Student Council member. The golf tournament will be held on Wednesday, October 16th. Registration is at 9:00 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $100 for a four-man team.
Stroud High School Student Council is also hosting a “Pink Out’ game on October 11th This year’s proceeds will go toward the Susan G. Kormen Foundation. You can order shirts until October 4th. The 10th annual Glow Run will be held on October 22nd.
Activities and meetings for the week include Hospital Development Authority Thursday October 3rd 7:00 a.m. at Stroud City Hall, Stroud Clothing Ministry Thursday October 3rd 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on West Highway 66, Davenport City-Wide Garage Sale Saturday October 5th, Stroud Medieval Faire Saturday October 5th in Foster Park from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., and Chamber of Commerce 5:30 p.m. Tuesday October 8th at Main Street Chamber office.
The Stroud High School Tigers football team handedly beat the Kellyville Ponies this past Friday night at Jack Poskey Field. The final score was 5521. The Tigers currently have a 5-0 record and a 1-0 record in District play. The Tigers will travel to Meeker this Friday night, October 4th to take on the Bulldogs. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
The Stroud Middle School Tigers took home the win this past Monday night, beating the Luther Lions 30-8. Monday night, October 7th, the Tigers will face the Chandler Lions in Stroud with a kick-off time of 5:00 p.m.
October is here and things are starting to look a little spooky around town. If you need Halloween decorations, you better get them now because I’ve noticed Christmas decorations already going up on the shelves. The Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for Main Street Trick or Treat at the end of the month. Let’s get out and show our support for local merchants.
