Town Talk volunteers began work this week putting the golf holes together.
We completed five of the nine holes. A big thank you to volunteers Julie Bivin, Heather Black and David and Janet Griebel for giving up a day to help make this happen. It was hot and humid and not an easy job but they were troopers and worked until we got the job done. Heather had to leave early to open her store, Welcome Home, but worked as long as she could.
We always need volunteers and if you don’t have an entire day to give, we will take what you have available. All donated time is appreciated.
Actually putting the holes together is the easy part, like working a jigsaw puzzle. After they are laid out, they must be pounded together with a rubber mallet. This is where the physical part comes in to play and where we could use some strong muscles to help.
Much to my shock and dismay, at the end of the day I was diagnosed with COVID-19. I had no idea I was sick so I apologize to anyone I might have exposed. Tried to contact everyone.
Needless to say, it will be a few days before we can put the next four holes together. I will post it on Facebook and announce it in this column when we begin that process. If anyone would like to donate, we are still accepting donations. As with any project there are more expenses than anticipated. You may donate by sending a check to Town Talk in care of Diana Reed at 301 West 6th Street, Stroud, OK 74079. Thanks to everyone for their support of this project. Hopefully, we will be completing it soon.
My sweet great-nephew, August Smalley, celebrated his sixth birthday this past Saturday. In the journalistic approach of my beloved friend, the late Alice Faye Brown, I couldn’t have a column in the hometown newspaper and not give a shout-out to August. Alice was always so good about things like that, and it was one of the reasons her column was loved, at least by my family. She and Billy will be forever missed here in Stroud.
My dear friends, Leon and Vivian Henshaw, celebrated their 59th anniversary this week. Congratulations to these two love birds. They must have gotten married right after kindergarten graduation. We also extend our deepest sympathies to them in the death of their grandson, Davis Clemons.
Don’t forget the Farmer’s Market this Saturday in downtown Stroud. It will be held at the Main Street Route 66 Pavilion.
City Manager Bob Pearman told me that work is scheduled to begin on the shade awning in Foster Park very soon. I will keep you posted on its progress. That will be a nice addition to the park. It will enable our youngsters to have more pleasant days of park play. Thanks again to One Cura for making this possible.
Hope everyone has a great week. Be sure and stop by and see what our local merchants have on sale this week. I’m sure they’re beginning to clear out their shelves to make way for all their fall and holidays goodies. Thank you, as always for choosing to shop local………………..first!
