We’re about to bring the curtain down on 2020. This year will be one that not many people will ever forget.

Because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, many, many people have said this year can’t get over quick enough. Others have uttered they are ready for 2020 to be done.

The one I have heard most is people indicating when something more than usual happens is they chalk it up to being part of 2020.

We can hope and pray that with the rollout of the vaccines and vaccinations taking place now, that the spread of the virus will slow as we conclude the year and enter 2021.

One of my resolutions for 2021 is to try and enjoy and make the absolute best of each day no matter how difficult or challenging it might be.

Another is more time with family. I wrote down that in December 1981 when our daughter wasn’t quite one yet. Finally, I have started doing more of it. Still, there is room for improvement.

A year ago I wrote that I had five resolutions for 2020 that were included in the last column of 2019.

I’m not going to count the number for the 2021.

Have a willingness to take on improvements around the house and the yard. There were specific ones back years ago, but they are long past.

My wife and I have done a couple of projects together over the past month. One of those I would have never tried but we did it. I need to focus on the willingness part of that resolution.

Maybe at the top of my resolutions for 2021 is to be the best granddad, best husband, best dad and dad-in-law, son-in-law possible and do whatever it takes to achieve that.

Our grandson, Liam, who is approaching 2 ½ years old, has been among my focuses as it should be, along with helping out our daughter Meghan and her husband Terry whenever needed. This has been a major, pleasant experience in our lives that will continue hopefully for years to come.

I’m not sure how to measure that in the future because it’s really the other people in my life, along with the Good Lord, on how I do.

Work at being a better husband. Pat and I have been married now more than 42 years. I can always work on being a little more appreciative, more loving, more thoughtful and more helpful. I feel I’ve made some progress.

The most important thing I can do as we enter 2021 is pray to the Lord daily to give me the willingness, the strength, guidance and direction to carry out what is needed the way he would have me do that according to his will and not mine.

And to have faith in Him that if I do that, everything is going to be OK.
