COVID numbers continue climbing

The total number of people testing positive for confirmed COVID-19 in Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties has increased significantly over the past week. The total number of persons testing positive in Oklahoma also has increased during the same time frame.

Surprise thunderstorms over the weekend and Monday morning limited street activities for a few youngsters in Davenport, above, and caused some rocks to tumble toward the of Highway 18 south of Chandler. 

Prague Elementary enrollment planned

Enrollment for prekindergarten students at Prague Schools will be 8-11 a.m., Thursday, July 16, at the Upper Elementary Building. The enrollment is first come, first served.

Filings for fire candidates begins

Candidates for a Director in the Northwest Lincoln County Fire Protection District will file their Declarations of Candidacy beginning at 8 a.m., Monday, July 27, and continuing Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Lincoln County Election Board Secretary Melissa Stambaugh.

This past Saturday (July 11), McLoud’s Chamber of Commerce hosted their annual Blackberry Festival, but with a bit of a twist. In order to accommodate for COVID-19, There was only a drive-thru option, for those wishing to buy T-shirts and Blackberry Jam, with no festivities outside of the pageant.

The McLoud Alumni Association was saddened to have to cancel our 44th annual reunion that was scheduled for June 27, 2020. A limited number of letters were sent out, but we would like to thank all that paid their due and gave donations.

Meeker survey on distance learning

Meeker High School Principal Brad Buxton informed Board of Education members Monday night that a districtwide survey shows 77 percent of those responding prefer the traditional method of starting school next month.

WSU announces honor roll

Wichita State University has announced the names of more than 3,700 students who were on the WSU dean’s honor roll for spring 2020. Neleigh M. Herring and Jalen A. Milligan, both of Chandler, made the deans honor roll.

Patino charged with assault and battery

Jesse Joey Patino, 26, of Willard MO was charged with two counts of battery/assault and battery on Police Officer and one count of attempting to escape from penitentiary.

Couple celebrates Golden Anniversary

Leslie and Lila Wilson of Chandler celebrated 50 years of matrimony by taking a trip to Van Buren, Ark., and vicinity. Lila Walters and Leslie Wilson were united in marriage June 26, 1970, in Chandler. Leslie retired from the National Guard yet still stays busy mowing and fencing.
