Stroud’s 1st and 2nd grade football team walloped Inola, 50-0, in their first-round playoff game Saturday. They’re 9-0 now and haven’t allowed an opponent to score all season. They host Sperry at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the second round. Above, a post-game photo with the happy team and coaches.

Area bands receive ‘excellent’ ratings

Marching band contest season has officially come to an end with five area bands competing at OSSAA Regionals over the last two weeks. Four of the bands received II or Excellent ratings -- McLoud, Stroud, Chandler and North Rock Creek. Prague received a III.

Chandler racked up its third straight lop-sided win Thursday, beating Tulsa Central, 28-0, in a game that was moved to Thursday because of expected heavyrainandthen called just after halftime as the storm moved close.The teams came out fromthehalfandranafew plays before the warning siren went off.

Waukomis knocks off Davenport

In what Davenport Coach Grant Powell described as one of the most physical football games he’s seen played in a long, long time, his Bulldogs fell to Waukomis 24-20 in a road contest last Thursday night.“It was a close, close game,” Powell noted, in reiterating how physical it was.

Trystan Baker ran for 195 yards and a score Friday, as Stroud flexed its offensive muscle and blanked Casady, 42-0.Stroud rushed for 302 yards and led 36-0 at the half.

Chandler’s Lady Lions won the first two games of the state tournament in their last at-bat, but their comeback against Washington fell short in Saturday’s finals.Number 1-seeded Washington ended up with its 10th fastpitch state championship, beating the secondranked Lady Lions, 9-3.

Fastpitch all-conference

Chandler pitcher Kennedy Allen and coach Bryan Herring were recently named fastpitch Player of the Year and Coach of the Year in the 66 Conference.A senior who has committed to Oklahoma State, Allen led the Lady Lions to the state semifinals last year and the state championship game this season.

Stroud romps past Newkirk

Stroud made quick work of Newkirk last week, putting up a 70-0 district win.The Tigers now stand 6-1 for the season and 4-0 in district, with a showdown looming with district coleader Hennessey on Halloween night in Stroud.
