Chandler rolls past Nathan Hale

Lincoln County hoops

Last week was a tournament week, with area basketball teams scattering to the points of the compass. Two Lincoln County schools held tournaments, with Agra and Wellston going to Davenport for the Davenport Hardwood Classic and Stroud hosting the annual Route 66 Classic.

Two championships for Dale

The Dale High School boys and girls basketball teams captured the Kingston tournament and each team had the Most Valuable Player of the tourney as well. Sophomore Dayton Forsythe of the Pirates was named the tournament’s MVP.

Hardware for Chandler

Chandler’s boys and girls teams brought home consolation championship trophies from the Ripley tournament over the weekend. Both teams posted 43-42 wins over Woodland on Saturday in the consolation finals. Photos/Mario Holland

5-year-old takes third at US Open

Remmi Schwahn competed in the 46th Annual United States Junior Open Championship on December 30-31st, 2021, at the Oklahoma State Fair Park. He placed 3rd out of 22 athletes in the 6 & Under 40 pound bracket. Remmi earned 30 points in four wins with a Tech Fall in the third period 17- 1.

Sports year in photos

2021 provided some memorable sports moments for area high school athletes. Top, Stroud freshman Drew Clovis clears the bar on his way to a silver medal in the pole vault in the Class 2A state track meet in Ardmore in May.

The Champ

Five-year-old Remmi Schwahn, who wrestles for Chandler Takedown Club, displays the bracket and championship belt from the 2021 Tulsa battle for the belt. He won the 6-under novice division. His parents are Lauryn Schwahn and Michael Givens and his coach is Shane Earp.

Tournament week

Area teams brought home a lot of hardware from the first tournament week of the basketball season. Dale swept the championships in the inaugural Boomarang Classic, played at Dale.
