Titles for Prague, NRC, Davenport, Dale X2
Area teams brought home a lot of hardware from the first tournament week of the basketball season.
Dale swept the championships in the inaugural Boomarang Classic, played at Dale.
The top-ranked Pirates rolled past Afton and Elgin in the first two rounds before dispatching Oklahoma Christian, ranked No. 4 in Class 3A, 52-43 in the finals.
The win over OCS left the Pirates with a 7-1 record going into Tuesday night’s game at Luther.
The Dale girls, ranked No. 4 in Class 2A, also beat Elgin and Afton in the first two rounds, then beat longtime rival Silo, 52-42, for the championship.
A few miles south, the Prague boys kept their unbeaten season going by blistering Bridge Creek 80-58 in the first round of the First United Bank Classic in Bethel, then beating Perkins 57-52 in the semifinals and Clinton, ranked No. 18 in Class 4A, 47-45 in the finals.
North Rock Creek headed east to Hartshorne, where the boys beat Oktaha in the semifinals by 61-51 count and Atoka in the finals by a score of 61-41.
The Cougars are now 5-1. The Davenport boys, ranked No. 19 in Class A and unbeaten on the season, owned the Oilton Tournament, beating Depew 61-7, Pawhuska 38-28 and sixth-ranked Pawnee, 56-30.
The Bulldogs are 4-0 for the season, after getting a late start because of their deep run into the football playoffs.
