Larry Wayne Durr, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at his home in Wellston, Oklahoma.LarrywasbornonFebruary 3, 1955, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Theodore and Virginia Faye (Holden) Russ. He grew up in Cincinnati, where he graduated from high school.

Congratulations to Charles Palmer and Cody Paige and their families on the grand re-opening of Stroud’s historic landmark, Skyliner Motel. Sunday was an exciting day for our community as we celebrated their accomplishment. The Skyliner was built and owned by Jack and Lorene Tarter.

When reflecting on her eighth-grade school year, Mattie Hurley, a freshman FFA member at Meeker High School, is reminded of how much growth has taken place and how many obstacles she has overcome. Living with highfunctioning autism and other medical needs meant being homeschooled until eighth grade.

Lincoln County Jail upgrades

The Lincoln County Jail is getting a facelift.The roughly $2.4 million project is covered by ARPA funds, according to Sheriff Kevin Garrett, and is upgrading facilities originally built in the late 1960s. A previous renovation added newer facilities in 2011.
Chandler’s seventh-ranked Lions rolled to the championship at the 66 Conference tournament in Stroud last week. The Lions beat Stroud and Holdenville in the first two rounds and Okemah by a 57-38 margin in the finals on Friday. In the girls’ bracket, McLoud’s fourth-ranked girls won the tournament and went to 16-0 for the season. They beat Holdenville, Stroud and Okemah with an average winning margin of 40 points.
