It was an innocent request. I was on my senior trip with my class, when my parents called and asked me to come to their hotel room. As soon as they opened their door, I knew they were going to tell me something that was not as innocent as I hoped. “Aunt Stephenie passed away,” my mom said.

As we decorated graves at four different cemeteries Memorial Day weekend, I looked around and some of what I saw was really disappointing. Pat and I and her mother went to two cemeteries in Shawnee on Saturday afternoon.

Mary Ruth Taylor of Chandler, Okla., went to be with the Lord on May 17, 2021, in Chandler at the age of 87. Mary Ruth (Kay) Taylor was born February 21, 1934 to her parents, Thomas Marion and Mary (Briggs) Kay in Shawnee, Okla.

A memorial service will be held for Sandra Kay Elam at 11 a.m., today, May 27, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Davenport with the Rev. Mike Mitchell officiating under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston. Elam was born March 27, 1957, in Alva, Okla.
