The wild hog problem remains just that in Lincoln county, an area game warden indicates.
Mike France is a State Game Warden assigned to Pottawatomie County who also helps out in Lincoln County. He said he’s getting most of the wild hog complaints in the Panhandle of Pottawatomie County south of Prague.
He noted a property owner told him, “When they were cutting corn they noticed they had some hog damage.”
Mike France said “They are all over the Quapaw Creek just north of Meeker and they are along the Deep Fork River. They are also on all the major rivers and creeks in Lincoln County.”
Virgil Fowler of the Meeker area has had problems with the hogs in the past on family land he farms.
“I had an alfalfa field that was about six inches high. In one night, a group of wild hogs tore up a field that was twice as long as he Meeker High School gymnasium floor,” he stated.
“Around Pecan trees, they will root it up like there is nothing under it. A wild hog is like having a 300-pound Armadillo around,” Fowler added.
He recalled, “When they came through that night they left tracks from the size of their babies to the huge ones like a 300-pounder.”
Fowler said a game warden told him, “You have to eliminate 70 percent of them just to try and keep up with them,”
He said Bruce Galloway, who farms land east of Meeker, told him last week that he trapped and eliminated 28 of them within the last year or two.
