Meeker hears drop-out report

The Meeker Board of Education was presented the dropout report for the Middle School and High School during its meeting earlier this week. Middle School Dean of Students Virgil Fowler reported no dropouts during the 2018-2019 school year.

COVID Deaths continue rise in area

The number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 has increased by two in Lincoln County and by one in Pottawatomie County in the last few days, the Oklahoma State Department of Health reports.

1. Update on “Quapaw 15 Project/Meeker Lake A. We had 2 guests from OWRA, Shawn Garrison and Kelley Matcheson. Kelley and I showed the new guy, Shawn, the lake project and explained to him what we had been told was going to happen at the lake.

Thinking about school elections

The three-day filing period for offices in school districts across Oklahoma concluded last Wednesday, Dec. 9. The number of those seeking these school board offices in Lincoln County totals 15. In Pottawatomie County a total of 22 candidates filed for office.

Stroud school board meeting

The Stroud Board of Education this week approved several resignations, among them two longtime employees of the district. Board members also approved the evaluation of the superintendent, extending his contract through 2023-2024 with an annual raise.

Billy Steven Real

Services with military honors were held for Billy Steven Real on Monday, December 14, 2020, in the chapel of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston, which handled the final arrangements. Burial followed at Rossville Cemetery in Wellston.

David Austin Randall

David Austin Randall of Meeker was born September 16, 1932, in Andrix, Colo. He died Friday, December 11, 2020, at the age of 88 years.

Amos Eugene “Gene” Chase

Amos Eugene “Gene” Chase was born November 23, 1928 in Carney to Amos and Delpha (Sadler) Chase. He passed away December 11, 2020 in Shawnee at the age of 92. Gene grew up on a family farm in Carney where he attended school and graduated with the class of 1946.

JoAnn Appleby

JoAnn Appleby, longtime Chandler, Okla., resident was born June 9, 1930, in Drumright, Okla., and departed this life on December 1, 2020, in Chandler at the age of 90 years. JoAnn was the daughter of Dewey and Eva (Hayes) Curry. She grew up in Chandler.
