Wellston: Valedictorians, salutatorians

Officials at Wellston High School recently announced the Valedictorians and Salutatorian for the graduating class of 2021.

Achieving a 4.0 or better grade point average during their high school years were Emma Janes, Tricity Ross and Hailey Wallace. Skylar Jackson is the 2021 class Salutatorian.

Emma Janes

Emma Janes is the daughter of Michael Janes and Julie Alsip. Her grandparents are Helen and the late Wendell Janes and Arthur and Janet Herrmann. In addition to completing the high school curriculum, she is graduating with 24 college credit hours.

Her honors and awards include the State FFA Degree with Academic Excellence, National Gold Individual in the Nursery and Landscape FFA Career Development Event and Tractor Supply Great Neighbor Award. She was a nominee to Oklahoma Girls State and the Washington Leadership Conference and an Advocate for the Diabetes Solutions of Oklahoma.

Emma is a member of National Honor Society.

She served as secretary and treasurer for the Wellston FFA Chapter and the vice president for the Science Club and her senior class.

She participated in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Business Professionals of America, and Family Career and Community Leaders of America. She was on the varsity cheer squad, prom committee and the Senior Leadership Council.

After graduation, Emma plans to get a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Central Oklahoma then get a job that will pay for her return to college for a master’s degree in psychology of a more specialized nature. Her long-term goal is to start a family, get a few cats and go thrift shopping every weekend.

Tricity Ross

Tricity Ross, the daughter of Gary and Angela Ross, is the granddaughter of Deborah and the late David Danker and Gary and Charlotte Ross.

A member of National Honor Society, she was a 2020 Girls State Nominee and was awarded the Eckerd College Academic Scholarship.

She participated in Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and was on the WHS Academic Team and the Senior Leadership Council. She played on the varsity basketball, fast pitch and slow pitch teams and was part of the varsity cheer squad. Tricity was the senior editor for the 2021 yearbook.

Her after-graduation plans are set as she was accepted into and will attend Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla. Tricity will work toward a degree in marine biology and eventually a degree in zoology.

Hailey Wallace

Hailey Wallace is the daughter of Kevin and Angela Wallace. Her grandparents are the late William and Mary Wayne Wallace and Jan and the late Martin Louthan. In addition to completing the high school curriculum, she is graduating with 21 college credit hours.

She played on the varsity teams for basketball and fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball serving as senior captain of all three teams. In fast-pitch, she was named to the All-District and All-Region teams. VYPE magazine named her a Distinguished Volunteer. Her athleticism and academics have earned her a softball scholarship to Seminole State College.

Hailey served in several leadership positions - reporter and twice as vice president in Future Farmers of America; secretary, vice president and president for Business Professionals of America; reporter for National Honor Society; and senior class president.

She was a 2020 Girls State nominee, State FFA Degree recipient and two-time BPA National Qualifier. She was chosen to attend the 2019 Washington Leadership Conference and participated in Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Senior Leadership Council.

Hailey will work toward an associate degree in business operations while playing softball at Seminole State College before transferring to Oklahoma State University for a bachelor’s degree in sports management. Her long-term goal is to be an entrepreneur with her own health and lifestyle fitness facility.

Skylar Jackson

Salutatorian Skylar Jackson is the daughter of Mark and Dina Jackson. She is the granddaughter of the late Robert and Patricia Ethridge and the late James and Sharon Jackson.

She served on the WHS yearbook staff and is a member of National Honor Society and the Senior Leadership Committee.

Following graduation, Skylar plans to complete requirements at Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee to be a Certified Nursing Assistant before attending licensed practical nursing school at Francis Tuttle Technology Center. After working as an LPN for a year, her goal is to attend the registered nurse program at Rose State College in Midwest City to become a trauma or forensic nurse.
