There will be no more updates from me on any of the town’s activities.
The new mayor, Jeff Wilbourn, called for a special meeting to be held on Wednesday, August 25 at 7 pm.
The only thing listed on the agenda was to discipline, suspend, terminate or ask for the resignation of Dickie Walton.
To make a long story short, all four trustees voted to terminate me with no reason given. The four trustees are Jeff Wilbourn, mayor, Aaron Head, Donna Webber, vice-mayor, and Billy Walker.
Many people were trying to ask the trustees after the meeting why they fired me, but no answers or reasons were given. They answered no one. Jeff Wilbourn told me to give him all my town keys so I did. He also told me I could come back the next day, Thursday, and get my personal items out of the office. He told me not to take the phone, keyboard or computer?
The new mayor had all the police officers at the special meeting to give a police escort to all the trustees to their cars and homes?
About 1:30 on Thursday Connie and I showed up at city hall to get my personal items out of the office. We went in and I asked the city clerk, Mary Conners, if she would let me in the office to get my items.
She said sure. By the time the three of us walked to the office they had a police officer, Wade South, there to join Mary to watch us as we packed my stuff. Both of them stayed there as we packed. What a joke, that was all weird.
So, what I want to say to the townspeople is to carry on with what we all have been trying to accomplish for the town of Meeker. Please continue to spend your money with all the local businesses so the tax money can stay in town.
Once again I thank all the townspeople for voting me “Citizen of the Year” and supporting me in all the things we accomplished in my almost 4 years tenure.
Just part of that hard work is the new park, $28 million worth of grants, some already paid and used and some that will go away now.
The week I got fired I got the town two grants for $150,000 each.
So for now, it is good bye until we meet again. As I will try to regain my good health that I had before I took this job.
