Even though the McLoud Redskins weren’t in the playoffs last Friday night, they did finish their season with two successive wins over district opponents.
Coach Rusty Hall’s Redskins walloped the Douglas Trojans 46-0 on senior night Friday in the season finale and the previous week whipped Bridge Creek 28-7.
Plagued by injuries to key players all year, the Redskins end up 3-7 overall and 2-5 in the district.
Hall said, “It was good to end with a win. We played really well and got the shutout. We were flying around on de fense,” the elated coach noted.
“We had a short field offensively all night because of our defense. They (the Trojans) muffed a punt early and we fell on it at the 10-yard line. Quarterback Kaden Carl threw a pass to receiver Coby Cardin for the touchdown,” the coach related.
Cardin blocked the Trojans’ next two punts, one in the first period and the other in the second quarter.
“Cole Kennedy picked up the second one and ran it about two yards for a TD,” Hall said.
In the second period, Carl teamed up with Cardin for a 27-yard TD pass, their second of three for the night. Running back Cirillio Valles scored on an 11-yard TD run, Hall stated.
“We kicked our PAT’s on all our first half touchdowns except for Cirillio’s. We put senior guard Robert Bupp in the backfield after his and Bupp ran in the two-point conversion,” Hall added.
With two seconds remaining before halftime, Connor Ryan booted a 37-yard field goal to put the Redskins ahead 32-0 at intermission.
In the final half, Carl hooked up with Cardin for their third TD pass of the night, this one covering 37 yards, Hall said. The Redskins missed the PAT.
“Coby had six receptions for 88 yards and three touchdowns, two blocked punts and an interception,” Hall pointed out.
Valles ran in the final TD of the night. “We put our other senior lineman, Ethan Isenhower in the backfield after that TD and he scored the two-point PAT to make it 46-0,” Hall said.
