Lady Lions play on Thursday
Dale head coach Andy Powell lets the emotion flow after his Lady Pirates won their sixth fastpitch state championship, 1-0, Saturday over Pocola. It was the crowning event of a week that saw Chandler’s Lady Lions earn a berth in the Class 3A fastpitch state tournament by beating Alva twice on Thursday. They will play Lindsay at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. The team bus will drive through downtown Chandler for a sendoff from 15th Street along Manvel Avenue to the turnpike at 8 a.m. Thursday. Stroud’s Lady Tigers reached the state Class 2A state tournament, as well, before falling to Latta, 11-1, in the first round. Dale’s baseball team reached the state finals before losing to Silo, 8-3, in the championship game. Also, Chandler’s football team got back on the winning track with a 69-16 over Tulsa Webster, and the unbeaten and top-ranked Stroud football team took care of district rival Alva, 52-14.
