A man and a woman from Carney are each facing multiple drug counts and each has been previously been convicted of felonies.
Formal charges were filed in Lincoln County District Court July 22, 2025 against Clyde Edgar Gladden III, 24, and Rita Ann Mendenhall, 45.
Gladden is charged with maintaining place for keeping/ selling controlled substance, a felony, possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance, a misdemeanor and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, another misdemeanor.
He appeared before Associate District Judge Joe Dobry who set his bond at $1,500. Gladden made his initial appearance on July 31 before Special Judge Emily Mueller who scheduled his pre-preliminary hearing for 9 a.m. Oct. 16, 2025.
Mendenhall is charged with the same three counts, a felony and two misdemeanors. However, court records also show she is charged with child neglect, a felony.
Mendenhall appeared before Judge Dobry who set her bond at $2,500. She made her initial appearance on July 31 before Judge Mueller who set her pre-preliminary hearing for 9 a.m.on Oct. 16.
Supplemental information filed by Associate District Attorney Kelly Trimble shows Gladden was convicted in Lincoln County District Court Sep. 30, 2024 of two counts Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon and a third count of Eluding or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer.
Supplemental information filed by Trimble also shows Mendenhall was convicted in Payne County District Court on April 26, 2002 of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and with possession of a firearm during the Commission of a felony.
