Construction in I-44 continues

The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority released an update on ongoing projects along the Turner Turnpike/I-44.

The turnpike between Stroud and Chandler was narrowed to one lane from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 6,fromMM147forsurface repairs. This is in addition to narrowed lanes between State Highway 99 and the service plaza through 2026 as part of the widening and realignment of westbound lanes.

The service plaza at Stroud will also remain closed until fall 2025 while new facilities and overnight truck parking are being built. Drivers are asked to plan ahead for fuel, food and restaurant stops along westbound I-44/Turner Turnpike. The exit ramps to Heyburn, Kellyville, Bristow, Stroud, Chandler and Wellston remain open for fuel and food.

Theconstructionofanew bridge near the Wellston exit on Turner Turnpike is still on track to be completed by fall 2025. Drivers are encouraged to slow down for safety and to be vigilant while driving through the work zone.

Other projects to keep an eye on include the narrowing ofTurnerTurnpike near Bristow. It was brought down to one lane from 8 p.m. Aug. 5 to 6 a.m. Aug. 6, then again from 8 p.m. Aug. 6 to 6 a.m. on Aug. 7. The work shifted traffic onto new pavement to relocate barrier walls in the work zone to make room for upcoming work on the median.

The east and westbound lanes of the turnpike have been shifted, while the lane width is narrowed with no shoulders between Bristow MM 197 and State Highway 66 at MM 203 as part of the ongoing widening project. On top of that, W. 211th St. is closed between S. 337th W. Ave. and N. 3730 Rd. through summer 2025 for ongoing bridge construction.
