Stroud outscored Class A power Pawnee 19-6 in the second half brought home a 42-34 win Friday night.
The victory evens the Tigers’ record at 1-1 going into this week’s clash with Tonkawa at 7 p.m. Friday at Jack Poskey Stadium.
“We played a pretty exciting game,” said head coach Josh Presley. “It was full of momentum and lead changes and was one of most entertaining and interesting games we’ve been in.
“Pawnee is a different kind of animal. They run old school single wing football and it’s a fist fight. They’re ranked No. 2 in Class A and were semifinals team last year. I expect they’ll be back there this year.”
Quarterback Jeremiah Cropp completed 14 of 20 passes for 287 yards and four touchdowns and the Tigers ran for 192 yards.
“Kids played really well,” Presley said. “Jeremiah threw for four touchdowns. Aiden Collins and Jacob Beck had good games and our offensive line did a great job protecting Jeremiah. I think he was only hit two times.”
Presley gave special credit to linemen Brandon McNeilll, Trenton Stewart, Chalin Morris, Jacob Aylor, Kaleb Aylor and tight end Jessen Leathers.
“After halftime, we came out and got a couple of stops,” he said. “We got a couple of turnovers on kickoffs that really helped out. We were up before half, got down, then came back after the half.”
